Once a year, La Mesa Boulevard is closed and Antique dealers from far and wide set out their wares. Reminiscent of an old fashioned Midwest flea market, there's live music and entertainment. Live Music is featured in a number of stage areas, while Horse Drawn Carriages and Bonfires fill the Boulevard. The kids will love Santa, the Carnival Rides and the Puppet Shows. The La Mesa Village Farmers' Market has become a tradition on Friday afternoons in the Allison Avenue parking lot east of Spring Street. Between 3 and 6 pm, rain or shine, shoppers can select from a large selection of items. Next Friday, stop by the La Mesa Farmers' Market and grab some certified farm grown products to spice up your weekend! This annual parade has the route going along La Mesa Boulevard through the La Mesa Village (just east of Spring Street.) Families bring lawn chairs and enjoy watching the floats, clowns, bands, local officials and much more on this May event.

During the summer, the City of La Mesa offers free movie nights. One was called Dive in Movies that was held at the municipal pool where you could swim or relax in the pool while Hook played on the Big Screen. Another show this summer was Shrek 3 which was held at La Mesita Park.
A tradition for the community of La Mesa is the annual Oktoberfest. This activity brings visitors and vendors from all over the region to La Mesa for a weekend that is dedicated to family, friends, great food and entertainment. This year the La Mesa Chamber was proud to partner with the La Mesa Village Merchants Association, who began this popular event over 35 years ago. This event has gone from a small street fair to a 3 day festival, with 400 vendors offering goods and services to over 200,000 attendees. Add great food, lots of children activities, entertainment and of course, good old German brats and cold beer and you have a family event that has something for everyone.
